It's a mostly peaceful night- they've just retired to bed, Hythlodaeus' head on Emet-Selch's chest, and like that he can fall asleep quite quickly. Draped over his friend, his dreams are usually pleasant.
It starts with light twitching, small groans. He can see Amaurot burning all over again, air thick with smoke and blood. Abominations brought forth from fear and panic run free, and as he searches for Emet-Selch or Azem he becomes more and more convinced that perhaps one of the bodies lying face down by his feet could be them. He trembles, both in his recreation of Amaurot and in bed.
He realises with a start that he's fading. No- he hadn't said goodbye. He can't go, not yet. And yet when he blinks again it's already been thousands of years, a shard of what was once Etheirys floats silently above him, and it's too late. He wakes with a start, breath uneven, still entirely convinced in the dark that he's far away from his friends, his home, and that he never got to see them one last time. His breath catches in his throat as he sits up, eyes trying to make sense of his surroundings, brain still struggling to catch up. And then he groans to himself, quietly, rubbing his face with his hands.
Emet-Selch is usually a heavy sleeper. It is something which stems from both his fondness for napping the hours away and the fact that he had simply lived too long in a state where the beings who existed could not pose a serious threat to him.
What he was not used to however was being asleep in the presence of others, let alone with someone literally on him, so when Hythlodaeus begins to become restless it does not take much to rouse him from his own slumber.
His eyes open, slowly blinking to adjust to the darkness as he turns his head slightly to his companion. Hythlodaeus is fidgeting, small groans escaping here and there and for a moment, Emet-Selch is left wondering just what kind of dream the other is having. Those thoughts are soon gone however and his own brow furrows as he continues to observe. The tenseness in those sounds, the unevenness of breaths which can only be attributed to panic- this was no dream at all.
His free arm reaches over to rest a hand on top of his friend's as the one already looped around him pulls them closer together, all while speaking his name, slow and quietly, an attempt to rouse him gently and lessen the chance of Emet-Selch getting an elbow to the face or something. When he is certain that Hythlodaeus is awake enough, he speaks.
He lets Emet-Selch pull him back down from his half-sitting position and buries his face in his neck, breathing in deeply. His friend... he's here. They're together. And he's fine, really, completely fine! He doesn't want to cause a fuss when it was just a nightmare...
"Hades..." He sighs it, relief in his voice. Then he shakes his head, grunting. "'Twas nothing... a dream. A nightmare, I suppose."
He feels silly having to admit it, and he chuckles weakly. "Pay it no mind." Even if he's still shaking, just a little.
Hythlodaeus lowers himself again and Emet-Selch shifts his position slightly, to let them be comfortable as he wraps his arms around his friend, enough to have a solid hold while not being too constricting.
His inquiries are brushed off and in that instance he does consider just dropping it as requested and going back to sleep, if the roles were reversed it is what he would ask for also, but he cannot follow through with it in good conscience.
"It did not seem like nothing." A pause. "You're still trembling."
He will not push it if Hythlodaeus does not wish to talk about it, but it is honestly a little disconcerting to see his usually light-hearted and chipper friend be so negatively affected by something.
We are fine. Ours returned also, the thing is raising hell behind me as we speak.
[If you hear clattering, just ignore it. The manna bairn here is made up of the worst traits of the two of them combined, so of course it gets into everything.]
They're going to vanish soon... at least the ones I got with you and Hythlodaeus are well behaved. For the most part. The first one I'd had with Gaius was a plant.
Welcome to shoebill facts. Did you know shoebills primarily feed on fish? Their favourite prey are lungfish. They also eat frogs, water snakes, lizards, baby crocodiles and anonymous texters.
Hythlodaeus wouldn't have generally cared for Valentine's Day outside of the excuse to shower his friends with chocolates and flowers. But he's kind of confessed unintentionally how he feels to Emet-Selch even if they haven't talked about it, and with that burst of love affecting everyone he's feeling rather affectionate. And still like he needs to prove that he's fine, too.
He has been nestled up against Emet-Selch most of the morning, barely leaving him alone. He gave him the opportunity to shower alone at the very least- but as soon as the Ascian sat down Hythlodaeus was beside him again. Look at how happy and affectionate he is, there's surely nothing wrong!
"Would you like to go out for dinner today?" He asks it while settling his head against Emet-Selch's shoulder, eyes closing. If he focuses on the smell of the body wash his friend used, he can't smell ash and death in the air.
The events of the previous weeks have not sat well for either of them. Though everything had returned to 'normal' and everything was 'fine', the reality was that nothing is fine at all. Both Hythlodaeus and Azem had arrived and for a while Emet-Selch was content to simply bask in it and live a little, but Noctium had other plans for the trio. To say he is brooding over it would be an understatement, the whole event does not sit right with him for many reasons.
Hythlodaeus on the other hand, appears to have been incredibly cheerful and clingy the last few days- to the point where it is becoming a little much. Not that the affection was unwanted mind you- he simply wanted space to think.
After his shower however Emet-Selch was far more receptive to it. Apparently that shower worked wonders in refreshing both his body and his mind, for when he returns to the sofa he is in fact quite happy, eager even to be nestled up together once more.
"We can. To be honest, although I am glad to be back I am getting rather sick of staring at these walls." He turns his head, planting a kiss on top of Hythlodaeus' head, then another. "Let's go somewhere new."
He can tell he's being clingy, to the point that he's kind of irritating himself- but he can't seem to stop it. He's never been the type to fall into despair no matter what the situation is, as long as he can find something hopeful to cling onto. In this case, the hope is that he has Azem and Hades.
He brightens as Emet-Selch presses a kiss to his head, taking it as a sign he's not getting on his nerves just yet. "As am I, my friend. What should we get? We have the money to spare... we could go anywhere."
Where to indeed? In a rare change of heart he'd rather not eat anything that reminds them too much of home, and it would take too much time to travel out of the city proper and find something truly new.
His friend's mention of money however, has him thinking. They do have a sum saved up with nothing major to spend it on, since most of the time the trio can simply weave magicks to obtain items they want.
"...What do you say to wasting some of that money?" The talk of currency reminded him of the very extravagant hotel in the middle of the Ruby Plaza. Their meals are said to be both ridiculously expensive and delicious, which may be the distraction they need.
"We have no need for it." He speaks, letting his chin rest on his friend's head while waiting for a response. "I say we go blow it all at the Estancia. Apparently their garden is on the rooftop, overlooking the entire city."
A pity the ankle was all it took. I've seen better acting from a town drunk.
You know the injury probably does not matter anyway, right? She is going to spend the next three weeks confined to a hospital bed as part of the tale. They are going to bring back that ridiculous memory loss plot once more I can FEEL it.
Forgive me that I find it difficult to believe that this thing magically appeared here all on it's own, when it looks exactly like the one from your garden.
